In Banaras, where trade and tradition have long lived side by side, the foundations of Man Made were formed through generations of working with cloth. What began as a family deeply embedded in the saree trade gradually revealed the quiet erosion that occurs when making becomes routine and meaning thins into transaction. Stepping away from certainty, our founder spent nearly a decade moving through carpet workshops and villages, observing not only how rugs were made, but how they were spoken about once they left the loom. This distance between maker and market gave rise to Man Made, a house committed to restoring dignity, visibility, and responsibility to the act of making.
